A significant step forward in international academic collaboration was marked as IUBAT and Yunnan University (YNU), China, successfully held a meeting followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 21 April 2026.

The MoU formalizes a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in education, research, and innovation, with a special focus on advancing Perennial Rice Research and establishing a dedicated research centre at IUBAT. This partnership is expected to open new avenues for academic exchange, joint research initiatives, and sustainable agricultural development.

The distinguished delegation from Yunnan University was led by Prof. Ma Wenhui, President of Yunnan University. He was accompanied by Dr. Wu Yun, Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; Mr. Hu Jianfeng, Secretary-General of Alumni Association; Prof. Zhang Shilai, Deputy Director of Office of Science and Technology Division; Dr. Luo Weiwei, Vice Dean of Institute of International Relations; Liu Wenli, Chinese language lecturer at Confucius Institute at North South University; and Yang Hui, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Dhaka University.

From the IUBAT side, the delegation was led by Professor Dr Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, along with Professor Selina Nargis, Treasurer and Director Administration of IUBAT; Brig Gen Dr Md Zahid Hossain (Retd), Controller of Examinations; Prof. Dr. Md Momtazur Rahman, Registrar; Prof. Dr. Ismail Hossain, Chairman of the College of Agricultural Sciences; Dr. Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Coordinator of the College of Agricultural Sciences; Prof. Dr. Farjana Sultana, Professor of the College of Agricultural Sciences; Md Sadekul Islam, Director of International Program Office; Prof. Dr. Sajal Saha, Director of Miyan Research Institute; and Md. Alamin Sikder Shihab, Director of Branding and Public Relations Office.

Both institutions highlighted that this agreement will significantly contribute to strengthening academic ties, expanding opportunities for faculty and student exchange, and promoting collaborative research in key areas of global importance, particularly in sustainable agriculture and innovation.

The MoU signing was described by officials from both sides as a promising milestone in fostering long-term international academic cooperation, reflecting IUBAT’s continued dedication to excellence, innovation, and impactful research on a global scale.
