Savar, Dhaka – December 24, 2025 – In a significant stride toward integrating academic learning with real-world engineering practice, 75 students and faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DoEEE) at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) visited the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) Central Workshop in Savar on December 24, 2025.
Led by Engr. Md. Abul Bashar, Associate Professor at DoEEE, the delegation comprised 73 undergraduate students, two faculty members, and one administrative officer. The visit was facilitated through formal coordination with Md. Abdul Aziz, Director of the Training Department at BREB, and warmly hosted by BREB officials, including Sadiqul Zaman Khan, Deputy Director (Technical) of the Technical Training Centre, and Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Chief Engineer (Project). The team was received by a 25-member BREB contingent, including senior engineers and technical staff, upon arrival at 11:45 a.m.
The educational tour offered students an immersive look into the operational heart of Bangladesh’s rural power infrastructure. Participants observed a wide array of advanced equipment and testing procedures, including transformer maintenance (notably 5 MVA units), high-voltage (HV) testing, oil testing, ACR and VCB tests, insulation diagnostics, fault location systems, and CT & PT calibration. They also toured the 11 kV and 33 kV switchyards, examining critical components such as current and potential transformers, isolators, and protection relays—core elements of modern power transmission networks.
The visit culminated in an engaging Q&A session held at the administrative building, where students exchanged insights with BREB engineers on topics ranging from grid integration and preventive maintenance to career development in Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving energy sector.
“The experience transformed abstract concepts from our Power System Analysis and Energy Conversion courses into a tangible reality,” shared one student. “Seeing the scale, complexity, and precision of a real power infrastructure facility was truly inspiring.”
The DoEEE expressed heartfelt gratitude to the BREB Central Workshop for its hospitality and technical generosity. Special thanks were extended to Md. Abdul Aziz, Sadiqul Zaman Khan, Md. Shafiqur Rahman, and the entire BREB engineering team for their time and expertise. The department also commended Engr. Md. Abul Bashar for spearheading the initiative.
This field visit underscores IUBAT’s enduring commitment to experiential learning and strengthening industry-academia partnerships—key pillars in preparing future-ready engineers who can contribute meaningfully to Bangladesh’s sustainable energy future.
